Methods

This objective of this project is to take inventory of the parkway trees in the Holmby Westwood Neighborhood. This study aims to identify the current state of the parkway trees in this neighborhood by assessing tree species, location, health and approximate age (established or young).

Using Google Earth Imagery along with fieldwork observations we classified each trees address by species, health, and general height (less than 5 meters, 10 to 15 meters, and over 15 meters). This data was then complied into a comma-separated values (.csv) file to be joined with a shapefile of the neighborhood by building footprints so that data could be visualized across the study area. Lastly, we to recover historical records from the Aerial Imagery archive of the area to find evidence of past tree placement and compare to current trees.
